April 29, 2010 "Forever Love" "Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever." - Psalm 136:26 (NIV)It has been a pretty trying time in the two weeks since the last article was written. Very busy at work... both shift-wise and administratively. Also have been through four days of class (including the EMS Leadership Academy - part deaux) during this time. And, we have been part of the critical incident team responding to the oil rig explosion. I have worked 12 of the last 13 days. I am not complaining, mind you. I am just trying to relate the situation. When we get busy like this (don't we all have three jobs, have to go to CE training and tend to our spouses and families?), the tendency is to let our mind drift away and we start focusing in on all the stress. Okay, at least I know I do. And, it's in those moments, especially, that we need to call out to our REAL CHIEF. Cindy knows me pretty well by now. She knows when my stress-o-meter is bouncing on the "Danger" line. So, she reminds me of something very basic... "Pray. Turn it over to GOD. HE will get you through this." The phrase "His love endures forever" is used 41 times in the Bible (The SOG for Life!)... including once in each verse in the 136th Psalm. That speaks to me. When I am exhausted from a 24 hour shift and still have things to do, "His love endures forever." When I feel like I can't go on, HE reminds me, "My love endures forever." When I sin and ask forgiveness, HE reminds me, "My love endures forever." No matter what I am going through, "His love endures forever." Give thanks that His love endures forever as you faithfully serve... ...On HIS Shift, Copyright © 2010 Chaplain Skip Straus and Emergency Ministries. April 12, 2010 "Tax Time" "Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the LORD has been good to you." - Psalm 116:7 (NIV)Cindy and I are very blessed that we have to pay taxes. What??? That's right... we are blessed to be able to pay taxes. You see, that means that GOD has blessed us another year. And, we are rejoicing and giving HIM the credit because our taxes are actually a little less than last year. I think most of us approach April 15th with a bit of dread... especially if you know that you are going to have to donate to Uncle Sam. Our verse this week contains two awesome reminders from our REAL CHIEF: first; relax. Be calm. Don't stress. second; HE has been good to you... again! That's right, HIS Word says to be at rest "once more." Thank You, GOD, for giving us the resources we need. Thank HIM for allowing us to serve... ...On HIS Shift, Copyright © 2010 Chaplain Skip Straus and Emergency Ministries.
